Portugal Rocks & Benafim Dog Rescue
For years before the inception of Portugal Rocks, the Boat Parties, Bar Crawls, Pool Parties, Golf & Leisure or the Bar & Grill the founder has always been a dog lover, owner and volunteer. Sadly Portugal has a problem with abandoned and mistreated dogs (as do all countries) ranging from animals left behind by ex-pats to illegal dogfighting and everything else in between. Since 2017 Portugal Rocks and its staff have been actively involved with a fantastic rescue centre on the Algarve called Benafim Dogs.
The Benafim Dog Shelter is particularly special on the Algarve as it doesn't seek government funding or donations and is supported purely by its founder and partner in the Portugal Rocks Bar & Grill. The shelter specialises in big and dangerous breed dogs who sadly are the most common victims of abuse and need the most help. The Benafim team works tirelessly to rehome dogs where they can and has fantastic success in placing dogs with new families in Portugal and abroad, sadly some of the dogs are traumatised and unable to go to new homes so the team make Benafim their home where they can run free during the day with their shelter friends and be safely tucked up in their own runs at night.
Portugal Rocks staff offer their services and time free of charge as volunteers helping to walk the dogs, maintain and repair the shelter perimeter where needed, gardening, building and the promotion of the shelter to help with adoptions and rehoming on social media. We wanted to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to the team at Benafim Dog Rescue and to tell our clients about the fantastic job that is being done every day.
